About Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nalbari

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nalbari was established in the year 2004,It is one of the 23 KVKs functioning presently under the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. It comes under ATARI, Guwahati, Zone-VI. The office started functioning its activities from June, 2004 in a rented house under the leadership of Programme Coordinator, Dr. H C Bhattacharyya and afterwards the office started functioning in its own campus at Sariahtoli, Milanpur since 23rd October 2010. KVK Nalbari has made phenomenal contribution in the farming sector of the district through mandated and other extension activities including flagship programmes of Govt. of India in a good convergence with district administration and line departments. It received zonal best KVK award from ICAR in 2015 and it is also instrumental in bringing many laurels to farmers and farm women of the district at national level. To implement the mandates effectively, the following activities are envisaged for each KVK:

• On-farm testing to assess the location specific technologies under various farming systems.
• Frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.
• Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills.
• Work as knowledge and resource centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
• Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers.

In addition, the KVK Nalbari also produces quality technological products (seed, planting material, bio-agents, livestock) and make it available to the farmers, organize frontline extension activities, identify and document farm innovations and converge with ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK.
