Activities and Approaches :
1. Fish Seed Production
2. Production of Fish seed other than cat fish
3.Other farming activities
Fish seed production:
Nityananda Barma transformed the field of pisciculture by integrating cutting-edge technology, transitioning from traditional hapa breeding to advanced hatchery techniques, significantly improving fish seed production. He utilized artificial breeding methods, scientific incubation processes, and meticulous water quality control to increase fish survival rates. The implementation of modern fish hatchery systems enabled greater efficiency and mass production, yielding approximately 20 lakh spawn per operation. Barma’s introduction of sustainable aquaculture practices, including environmentally friendly fish feed and proactive disease management strategies, further strengthened the industry. Through this technology-centric approach, he reshaped Assam’s fish farming sector, rendering it more profitable, scalable, and accessible to local farmers and entrepreneurs.
Production of Fish seed other than cat fish:
In addition to catfish seed production, he achieved notable progress in fish seed cultivation by implementing the Hapa system for breeding both Indian Major Carps (IMC) and Exotic Carp species. The Hapa system is a regulated breeding approach that utilizes nets (hapas) suspended in ponds or water bodies to promote induced fish breeding. This technique allowed him to generate premium fish seed for these IMC varieties, which play a crucial role in the aquaculture sector.
