KVKs play a crucial role in transferring knowledge and technologies to farmers through various extension activities.

Capacity Development

1.Training Programmes:
KVKs conduct both short-term and long-term vocational training programs for farmers, farm women, and rural youth on various aspects of agriculture and allied fields.
2.Extension personnel training:
KVKs also organize training programs for extension workers to update their knowledge and skills in emerging agricultural technologies.

Production & Supply of Quality Inputs

1. Quality seed & planting materials production:
KVKs produce and make available to farmers quality seeds, planting materials, bio-agents, and livestock.
2. Soil and water testing:
KVKs also provide soil and water testing facility for farmers.

1. Mobile apps and SMS alerts:
KVKs utilize mobile apps, SMS alerts, and social media to disseminate agricultural information.
2. Integration of AI and IoT:
KVKs are also exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things for precision farming.

Women Empowerment

1. Self help group (SHG) formation:
KVKs promote self-help groups (SHGs) and rural women entrepreneurs.
2. Training in allied activities:
KVKs provide training in dairy farming, organic kitchen gardening, and food preservation.

Fresh Fruits, Vegetables, Eggs, Milk are produced for sale at KVK Farm.

Advisory, Extension Services

1. Farm Advisories:
KVKs provide timely and relevant advice to farmers on various agricultural practices, pest management, soil health, and climate-resilient farming.
2. Diagnostic Visit:
KVKs They offer diagnostic services for problematic fields and provide recommendations for curative and preventative measures.
3. Awareness camps:
KVKs organize farmer fairs, field days, and other events to create awareness about new technologies and government schemes.

Agri-Entrepreneurship Development

1. Encouraging startups:
KVKs support the development of agri-startups and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
2. Value addition and processing:
KVKs provide training in value addition, food processing, and agri-business development to empower farmers.

Why ? Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)

More than 700 KVKs across India with highly qualified and experienced SMS in agriculture and allied sector.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) , also known as Farm Science Centres, is a 100% centrally funded initiative by the Indian government aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and farmer income through technology assessment, refinement, and demonstration. KVKs act as knowledge and resource centers, linking the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) with extension services and farmers. They conduct training programs, on-farm testing, and demonstrations to disseminate agricultural technologies and promote sustainable farming practices.

Mandated Activities of KVK

  • On-farm testing to assess the location specific technologies under various farming systems.
  • Frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.
  • Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills.
  • Work as knowledge and resource centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
  • Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers.
